GARLIC
FLOWERS |
|
|
Garlic Flowers? Yes! We now
carry several varieties of flowering alliums (not edible.) The hardneck
and Elephant varieties indeed produce flowers. They are both decorative
- and edible. Garlic is a member of the allium family which is famous
for its blooms. And the many varieties of garlic have an amazing variety
of pods (scapes), the edible stage before the full flowering. The Elephant
garlic produce a large (2-3 inches) ball of small purple flowers. The
mysterious snake-curled scapes of the hardneck varieties, especially the
Rocamboles, are both decorative and edible. The long-stemmed scapes, often
up to 3 feet tall, have long been a favorite for floral designers in Japan.
|
The Garlic Store is now pleased to make them more available in the U.S. The flowers
are long lasting, often a week or more. We can provide long stemmed flowers
to florists and designers during a period that generally lasts from mid-June
into mid-July. We can also package garlic scapes (the edible pods) for restaurants.
